Step-by-Step Program
1. Welcome & Purpose (5 minutes)
Host Script:
“Welcome to ‘One Table, Many Traditions.’ Today we’ll share traditions from our families and communities — how they’re celebrated, what they mean to us, and how they continue to grow as part of our American life.
This gathering is part of DOI250AA, an Asian American–led initiative dedicated to helping communities connect through shared experiences as we prepare for America’s 250th year.”
2. Icebreaker (10 minutes)
Choose one:
Share one holiday or event you look forward to each year.
Share a food, song, or object connected to a special tradition.
Share one tradition you’ve seen from another culture that you appreciate.
3. Tradition Sharing (40–50 minutes)
Each participant:
Names the tradition and where it comes from
Describes how it’s celebrated (food, customs, stories, music, gathering style)
Shares a personal memory connected to the tradition
Explains how the tradition has traveled or adapted in America:
Blended with another culture
Simplified or expanded
Practiced with new people or in new spaces
Connects it to a positive value such as gratitude, generosity, unity, kindness, curiosity, or service
Keep the tone warm, non-performative, and welcoming of all backgrounds.
4. Group Reflection (10 minutes)
Prompts:
“What’s one tradition you’d like to learn more about?”
“What similarities do we see across different cultures?”
“How can sharing traditions help build respect and understanding in our community?”
“What values showed up again and again today?”
5. Closing & Positive Action (5–10 minutes)
Step 1 – Reflection Notes
Participants write:
The tradition they shared
One new tradition they learned about
How sharing traditions can strengthen community connection
Step 2 – Submit to DOI250AA
Encourage participants to upload a photo or short description of their tradition to the DOI250AA website.
Mention BoostInMinutes.com incentives.
Host Closing Script:
“Traditions are living stories — carried through generations and shared across cultures. By bringing them to one table, we celebrate where we come from and strengthen the community we build together.”
