From its birth, America was envisioned as a nation built not on bloodlines, but on ideals—of liberty, equality, and self-determination. Though the journey toward these ideals has been complex and incomplete, they continue to call us forward.
250 United celebrates the enduring promise of these words, and how Asian Americans—often overlooked—have lived, defended, and advanced them in every generation.
Past Perceptions, Unseen Contributions
1876 – On America’s 100th birthday, Asian immigrants were labeled an “economic threat” and excluded from public life.
1976 – On the 200th anniversary, Asian Americans were still called “perpetual foreigners,” despite decades of service, sacrifice, and citizenship.
But even then, we were present: building the transcontinental railroad, growing California’s agriculture, fighting in World Wars, and raising families in towns across the U.S. We were there—not as tourists in someone else’s country, but as stakeholders.

Our Present – Visible and Vibrant
Today, 24 million Asian Americans live, work, and lead in every corner of this country.
We are teachers, veterans, public servants, and organizers.
We serve in Congress, city councils, and school boards.
We run small businesses, heal as healthcare workers, and innovate in STEM fields.
We lead movements for justice, partner across cultures, and raise new generations of Americans.
We are no longer waiting to be accepted. We are claiming our place in the narrative we helped build.
Our Future – Claiming the Next 250 Years
This milestone is not about just looking back. It’s about defining where we go from here.
250 United envisions a future where:
Asian American voices are recognized, not reduced
Our youth feel seen, not silenced
Our elders are honored, not erased
Our communities are part of shaping policy, culture, and opportunity
We don’t celebrate to prove we belong.
We celebrate because we always have—and always will.

1860’s – Railroad Builders
Chinese laborers laid the tracks that connected a nation. Many gave their lives, yet were left out of history books.
1940’s – WWII Veterans
Japanese American soldiers fought bravely in the 442nd Regiment, even as their families were held in camps.

Asian Americans marched alongside Black leaders for civil rights and immigration reform.
